Requirements for Bachelor of Education Arts & universities
Do you remember your Kiswahili, religion, or history teachers? Well, they most likely studied Bachelor of Education Arts at the university or pursued other education career paths before being registered to teach arts subjects by the Teachers Service Commission.
The course aims to train highly competent arts teachers who can comfortably teach arts subjects in Junior Secondary Schools(JSS) and Senior Secondary/High Schools.
In this article, we will share TSC-approved entry requirements, subject combinations, and universities offering the course.
Entry requirements for BED arts
To pursue a bachelor’s degree in Education Arts, you need a KCSE mean grade of at least C plus, with the same grade in two teaching subjects. i.e. If you would like to enrol for the History/Religion(CRE/IRE) combination, the entry requirements will be at least a mean grade of C plus with C plus in History and CRE/IRE.

You can enrol for the course at any of the following universities. Some universities might have higher cluster points depending on how competitive the course is in that institution. It’s advisable to choose a university with education arts cluster points that are close to your aggregated cluster.

Course Application
You can apply for the course through the KUCCPS portal the application. Successful Applications submitted through KUCCPS guarantee government education funding and HELB. We will notify you when the portal opens for applications.
Note: KMTC applications for the March 2025 intake closed on 14th February 2025.
Successful applications submitted to private institutions are not eligible for government education funding.
