Requirements for diploma in law and schools in Kenya

A diploma in Law (Para-legal studies) is a two-year course offered by various law schools in Kenya accredited to offer the course by the Kenya School Of Law.

Unlike a bachelor of Law, you cannot be admitted to the bar. This means that you cannot be registered to practice as a lawyer or advocate but you can work in courts and organizations as a legal assistant conducting research, preparing legal documents, filing cases, and other legal duties.

Entry requirements for Diploma in Law

You can enrol for the course if you meet the following requirements;

  1. At least C plain in KCSE.
  2. At least C plus in Either English/Kiswahili.
  3. A certificate in Law from an accredited institution.

  1. Mt Kenya university school of law
  2. The Kenya School of Law
  3. Kisii university
  4. The catholic university of East Africa

Fee structure

On average, the fee structure for the course is Ksh 45, 000 per term at the Kenya School Of Law and Mt Kenya Univerisity. That adds up to Ksh 190, 000 for the entire course. The course takes two years to complete with each year carrying two terms.

Course Application

You can apply for the course through the KUCCPS portal the application. Successful Applications submitted through KUCCPS guarantee government education funding and HELB. We will notify you when the portal opens for applications.

Note: KMTC applications for the March 2025 intake closed on 14th February 2025.

Successful applications submitted to private institutions are not eligible for government education funding.
