Clinical medicine courses (Diploma and degree) and requirements
Clinical medicine is a medical course offered at the Diploma and degree level in Kenya. The main difference between a Bachelor of Medicine and clinical medicine is that the latter doesn’t have a major focus on surgery.
Clinical medicine focuses solely on diagnosis and treatment but you might choose to specialize in surgery. The course is offered at diploma and degree levels of study. In this article, we will look at the requirements and schools you can enrol in.

Diploma in clinical medicine
A diploma in clinical medicine takes 3 years to complete and one year of mandatory internship. To be admitted for the course, you need a KCSE mean grade of C plain or above, C plain in either English/Kiswahili, C plain in biology, C minus in Chemistry, and C minus in either mathematics/physics.

Bachelor of science in clinical medicine
A clinical medicine degree takes four years to complete and one year of mandatory internship. To be enrolled for the courses, you need a KCSE mean grade of at least C plus in KCSE, C plus in biology, C plus in chemistry, C plus in either mathematics or physics and C plus in English/Kiswahili.

Cluster points for clinical medicine
Diploma courses do not have cluster points, however, the degree program cluster points range from 34 to 42. Note that cluster points per institution change from year to year.
Course Application
You can apply for the course through the KUCCPS portal the application. Successful Applications submitted through KUCCPS guarantee government education funding and HELB. We will notify you when the portal opens for applications.
Note: KMTC applications for the March 2025 intake closed on 14th February 2025.
Successful applications submitted to private institutions are not eligible for government education funding.
